Ember Lamp 2024 Lighting Design From the dying embers of a campfire came a flexible, radiant design.
Developed at TEAMS Design in Chicago, where I spent the summer as a product design mentee. I learned about rapid prototyping processes, modelling in Rhino and conducting market research. see the lamp installed below
Initially inspired by the structure and radiating glow of logs in a campfire, the design evolved into
a stylised pattern that reflects balance and symmetry.
This pattern plays with light, softening its
intensity while maintaining an inviting glow.It draws attention to the interaction between the light
and the burned edges of the surrounding material.
Process
With this project, I was eager to explore the transformative potential of laser cutting as a method. Using MDF, a traditionally rigid material, I was able to create a pattern that not only allowed light
to filter through in intriguing ways but also enabled the MDF to bend and form curved sections.
